What is SofaChats ?

SofaChats is a secure online platform connecting people in need with culturally appropriate therapists and counselors. They prioritize simplicity, security, and inclusivity, initially offering services in English and Spanish and planning to expand to other languages. Our therapists are highly qualified, carefully selected, and evaluated for their ability to serve diverse populations.

SofaChats gives patients the flexibility to choose therapists and services at their convenience, making it easy to connect from the comfort of their own space. Anonymity is valued, allowing patients to speak openly with their chosen therapist as needed. The platform strives to keep services affordable while ensuring therapist participation.

SofaChats operates as a direct-to-consumer model, accepting various payment methods, including credit cards and FSA/HSA accounts, with plans to potentially partner with major insurers in the future. SofaChats is committed to providing personalized attention and respect to its users.

How are therapist selected?

SofaChats has partnered with Behavioral Services Network, LLC,  a premier network of behavioral and substance abuse providers, to conduct all prescreening for therapists who are diverse and culturally sensitive. Additionally, therapists go through an extensive review process to ensure they are fully credentialed. Their licenses, insurance, and history are carefully considered and evaluated by a committee of their peers before being accepted into the network.
 

Can I use an anonymous name to keep it totally confidential?

Yes, you can indicate a nickname and express your preference to use that name for the session. Your real identity will only be revealed if necessary to ensure your safety or the safety of others. SofaChats does not sell or share your information with third parties, except as required by state and federal laws in extreme circumstances.
 

Can I set up a call instead of a video conference?

Yes, it is possible to set up a call instead of a video conference. However, it is not recommended because counseling assessments are more challenging when the therapist cannot see you through video. Body language is an important aspect of communication alongside speech.
 

Can I change therapist if I don’t like or connect well with my therapist?

SofaChats makes it easy for you to choose a therapist through your account. You can select the appointment date and time, and if you want to change therapists for future appointments, simply cancel the therapy session and choose a new therapist, date, and time for your next appointment. Navigating your member account is easy and intuitive.
 

How does the value package work?

If you purchase the value package for $320, you will receive a 20% discount on 4 sessions. To qualify for the discount, you must use all 4 credits. If any credit is not used and a refund is requested, each session will be considered an individual session without any discount.
 

Can I book all of my appointments at once?

Yes, SofaChats provides an easy way for you to book multiple appointments with the same or different therapists by selecting available appointment dates and times.
 

Can I cancel at any time?

Yes, you can cancel at any time, and any unused credits will be refunded. For example, if you purchase the value package of 4 visits but only use one session, your rate will revert to the individual session rate, and the remaining credits will be refunded according to the calculation mentioned in the provided examples.
 

What if I need to reschedule?

You can reschedule as long as the appointment date and time are at least 24 hours in the future. Last-minute rescheduling or cancellations make it difficult for your therapist to book another patient. With a little advance planning, you should be able to reschedule without losing a credit.
 

What if I’m a few minutes late to the session?

Communication is key. You will receive several reminders, and if you’re running late, you can send an instant message to your therapist to notify them. If you do not communicate and more than 15 minutes have passed since the start of your session, it will be considered a no-show, and the credit will not be refunded as SofaChats will be obligated to compensate your therapist.
 

Why does SofaChats ask me questions about how I’m feeling?

The assessment questions you are asked are collected in advance and after your services to help your therapist understand you better. This is an important part of therapy, as it allows for measuring your starting point and tracking progress. SofaChats values your feedback on how the therapy is going and aims to help you feel better.
